Where Do We Draw the Line?

In a society where we constantly publish details of our life on various social media websites, where does the issue of privacy come in to the discussion? With the revelations coming from Mr. Snowden on the PRISM program as well as other programs that have been gathering calling data, Americans must begin to ask themselves to what extent will we tolerate the intelligence community. The CIA began after the dissolution of the OSS after WW II and was built on the mandate of handling foreign intelligence. The FBI handles all domestic issues of intelligence in addition to its crime fighting mission. However, the NSA as well as other new intelligence apparatuses has clouded the landscape of intelligence gathering in the U.S.

Since the 9/11 attacks in 2001, the Federal government has been snooping around America electronically in the name of saving the lives of Americans. It is becoming increasingly clear that these additional agencies have been doing far more than track suspected terrorists. They have begun to treat all American citizens and residents as persons of interest and have been gathering data through social media, cell phone providers, and others in the name of national security. These blatant affronts on the privacy of Americans have been met with some concern and anger from the populace, but have failed to truly outrage the country. While it is not truly surprising, it is disappointing. As a country we have fallen from the stance that we do not want or need the government involved in our private lives and have allowed ourselves to become emasculated and afraid of the bureaucracy. It is truly sickening. We as a people deserve to live our lives free of the observation and judgment of the intelligence community and should be doing everything in our power to remove this influence from our lives and protect our progeny from ever suffering the same fate. It is truly a sad day when we cannot even put down our smart phone long enough to realize it is little more than the new age manacles of tyranny.

What’s the Issue?

In the last few months there has been tremendous debate on the legality and rights surrounding the ownership, carry, and configuration of firearms. This debate has centered on several incidences involving the use in firearms in the murder of American civilians. These occurrences have ignited new attempts to ban certain classes of guns, increase registration of firearms, and limit the modifications available to gun owners. Laws such as the Safe Act in New York have significantly affected gun owners and sparked resentment amongst those who wish to express their 2nd amendment rights. This brings up a few questions which I will attempt to explain in this document: what weapons are already banned or should be banned, is registration of firearms constitutional and/or useful, and whether security is more important than preservation of Constitutional rights.
In this country there are already numerous classes of weapons that are banned from being owned by private citizens. For example, citizens cannot possess various explosive ordnance delivery devices (RPG’s, Stinger’s, and others) as well as automatic rifles and machine guns (in most states). Such weapons are considered to be too dangerous for citizens and it is thought that there is no reason for a citizen to need one. This is a fallacy in the interpretation of the 2nd amendment’s purpose. It is often thought that the amendment pertains to recreational shooting, hunting, and defense against criminals. While the amendment does cover these areas, its most important aspect has been removed from discussion, to protect against tyranny in all aspects. The American people have the right to own, maintain, and use firearms in order to protect themselves from the violation of their basic rights. The primary enemy of citizens’ rights is often the government over them. This is why the discussion of gun ownership must be spoken on in the context of stopping the government from overstepping its bounds. In today’s environment the use of firearms in stopping government tyranny and abuse should be at the forefront of citizens’ minds. The escalating intervention and abuse of the police state should be taken into account. It may not seem important to some Americans whether or not the can own an automatic or high capacity weapon, but this opinion would drastically change once one is forced to confront a better armed and tyrannical police state with a semiautomatic, low capacity firearm. Keep these considerations in mind next time the capabilities of firearms and discussed and wonder why police forces can be trusted and gun owners cannot?
This brings up the next question for consideration. Should American citizens be required to inform the government of what weapons they possess and where they are located? While it may seem like a useful system for the justice system, but they seem to forgot that Americans are not criminals. The registration of firearms defeats the purpose of the 2nd amendment. These firearms are supposed to be a guarantee of an individual’s ability to defeat the tyranny that can be caused by government so why should Americans allow the government to gain knowledge that can only help curtail a citizen’s rights? The answer, they should not and they must fight this process every step of the way. The day a national registration of weapons becomes a reality the American people will be much closer to becoming the slaves of a corrupt and hateful regime.
This brings us to the discussion of the balancing of security and rights. In America today the notion of absolute security dominates the national discussion and the minds of many citizens. Most people today seem willing to give up rights in order to guarantee their safety from a manufactured terrorist threat. This is business as usual for the federal government. It specializes in creating false needs and then providing draconian solutions to problems that do not exist. It is important to recognize these policies for what they are. The gun control debate is simply a more visible threat than the others; the more you look at the solutions offered by the government what caused the problem in the first place the more apparent the government’s lies and inefficacy becomes apparent.

In this document I have highlighted the importance of the issues of what guns have been banned and why, the constitutionality of gun registration, and the discussion of security in regards rights. To those who wish to hold onto your rights: educate yourself, fight with a mind focused on the facts, and heart full of love for your fellow Americans and your country. Do not fight with ignorance or lack of evidence and remember that ignorance is your enemy, not your fellow man. Thank you for taking the time to read this document, I’m always open to debate and questions on my views and reasoning. Keep checking the Facebook and the blog for further information, thanks again.
